In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Sta-Rite Industries, Inc. is recalling a limited number of the following pool filters:

  • Sta-Rite System 2 Filters and Filter Systems (model numbers beginning with PLM or PLD)
  • Aquatools Filters and Filter Systems (model numbers beginning with AT84100, AT84150 or AT8230)

Sta-Rite has discovered that, due to a molding problem, the Posi-Lok locking ring (see diagram below) on those filters manufactured between January 2003 and September 2003 could disengage from the lower tank shell thereby allowing the upper tank shell to blow off the lower tank shell under pressure, which could pose an impact hazard.

If you own a Sta-Rite System 2 (model numbers beginning with PLM or PLD) or Aquatools (model numbers beginning with AT84100, AT84150 or AT8230) pool filter, you should click on the “Validation” link at the bottom of this page for instructions as to how to confirm whether your filter is affected by this recall (i.e., manufactured between January 2003 and September 2003), and if so, how to get a free replacement Posi-Lok locking ring and installation instructions.

If you have reason to believe that you own an affected filter, DO NOT disturb it or otherwise restart the circulator pump until after you have obtained a replacement Posi-Lock locking ring and installation instructions (for consumers who are not comfortable with the replacement procedure, Sta-Rite will arrange to have affected Posi-Lok locking rings professionally replaced at no cost).

If the Posi-Lok locking ring on your filter has the phrase “Lubricate Tank “O” Ring – see instructions” molded into it, however, the ring has already been updated and no further action is necessary for that filter.

For more information, you should call Sta-Rite, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CST, toll-free at 1-866-681-9148.

Please select Step1 to determine if you own one of the filters that is being recalled.
